Kristie G.: Giving Back To StepUp

June ’18 Life Skills Graduate & StepUp Volunteer

Kristie G., Children's Program volunteer and Life Skills graduate, came to StepUp in 2014 and made an impact from the start! Her love for children and organized nature made her a stand-out volunteer. Kristie was consistently early and often set up activities before anyone arrived. Kristie says of her volunteer experience, “I first decided to volunteer for StepUp so I could help out however I could in my community. I love working with the babies because they are just so cute and sweet, but mostly I know that their parents are trying to do better for their families”.

Colisha Stanford, Program Director, was always impressed by Kristie’s dedication. When asked about working with Kristie, Colisha said, “She has been one of the most independent volunteers ever. She would show up before I did! Her care and concern for the kids was incredible.”

After some time volunteering in the nursery and getting to know the parents in the program, Kristie decided to enroll herself in Life Skills. She was most interested in the topics like budgeting, credit and growing a savings account. Kristie graduated from StepUp in 2018 and has continued to apply the lessons she learned in Life Skills. Kristie says, "Knowing that I can have a hand in making someone's life a bit easier is what motivates me. I have gained long-term friends and a better life for myself through this program. I can't wait to continue my journey with StepUp!"
