Overcomer: A Perspective from Case Manager Alicia Gant

An overcomer is defined as someone who succeeds in dealing with or gaining control of a problem or difficulty.

This truly defines the StepUp Ministry Life Skills graduates. The class that graduated in September 2021 consisted of eight women from all walks of life who were not only teachable, but had a lesson or two to teach us as well. Volunteer copartners were skilled in meeting participants where they were and pushing them to grow. Their teamwork was a beautiful sight to see each Tuesday night.

There were many important moments to share about our graduates. One that stands out the most was the Vision Board presentation project. Each participant walked you through their present life and where StepUp could take them in the future. The progression in each presentation brought us all to tears.

StepUp has helped these eight amazing women believe in themselves again and gain confidence, professionalism and freedom from debt. Each graduate now has the ability to control their financial future and even start business plans.

One graduate, Rosita DeJesus, said of her experience, ā€œIā€™m not going anywhere. There is no question that I will be joining Step 3, Alumni. StepUp has helped me so much.ā€

Editor's Note: Alicia Gant is a recent addition to the StepUp Case Management team. September 2021 was Alicia's first graduation experience and we are excited to see her leadership in many graduations to come!
